LEGENDS ONLY • With its crisply faceted silhouette and metal bracelet, Cartier’s Tank Française, which debuted in 1996, marked a new chapter in the history of this iconic watch, blurring the line between timepiece and audacious jewel. This year’s update retains those hallmark features while staying firmly ahead of the curve. The case is composed of a single volume of metal in stainless steel or 18-karat yellow gold, with a streamlined profile that emphasizes the foundation of the exceptional design. The forerunner, created by Louis Cartier in 1917, was a favorite of Princess Diana’s and appears on Michelle Obama’s wrist in her official White House portrait, but the future belongs to its successor.
