UK HI-FI SHOW LIVE • The UK Hi-Fi Show Live took place over the last weekend of September at the spectacular Ascot Grandstand, a venue so vast that noise between rooms could not possibly be the issue it often is at shows; indeed careful planning was required to avoid excess miles of walking between rooms at opposite ends of the venue. We attended on the Friday press day, enjoying a crowd-free run of the rooms before the public days at the weekend. Here are some of our favourites…

Ringing True • Yamaha revives a higher level of soundbar in a new 'True X' format which pairs the bar with a wireless subwoofer and then battery- powered wireless rears – which have a life of their own.

Entertainment roll-out • BenQ has upgraded its circular projection concept with higher quality visuals but the same extraordinary simplicity of set-up and battery operation.

Advance notice • There's a new brand in Australia, though long-established in Europe, and our first contact is with a big glowing box which brings pretty much the lot – CD, radio, streaming and amps. Just add speakers.

Gaining entry • The smallest speakers from Bowers & Wilkins' entry-level range receive tweaks that makes them a now smoother yet still incisive listen.

Little marvel • It's the small streamer which whisked away our budget streamer award by taking on the big brands. Here's why.
