寫明武宗正德（1506-1521）年間，賽孟嘗徐鶴（字鳴臯）等十二英雄聚義，各仗俠肝義膽、超群武藝，劫富濟貧，除暴安良，後在七子（七位以『子』命名的劍仙，即玄貞子、壹塵子、飛雲子、霓裳子、默存子、山中子、海鷗子）及十三生（十三位以『生』命名的劍仙，即淩雲生、禦風生、雲陽生、傀儡生、獨孤生、臥雲生、羅浮生、壹瓢生、夢覺生、漱石生、鹪寄生、河海生、自全生）的幫助下，隨右都禦史楊壹清平定甘肅安化王朱寘鐇叛亂、隨佥都禦史王守仁平定江西甯王朱辰豪叛亂，結果七子十三生與十二英雄各受封賞。
