唐太宗李世民，出生于贵胄之家，隋末随父李渊在太原起事，南征北战，为唐朝的建国兴邦立下了汗马功劳。随后他杀太子及四弟，逼父李渊退位，成为唐朝第二代君主。即位不久，李世民征服了称霸蒙古高原的东突厥，一跃成为北方、西方诸国所敬仰的"天可汗"， 进而掌控丝绸之路东段。遵循谏臣魏征的建议，李世民在位期间"偃武修文"，实现了"贞观之治"的太平盛世。晚年大举征伐高丽，最终未果而返。后因大量服用道教金丹和天竺秘药过早辞世。
