《论衡》一书为东汉思想家王充（27-97年）所作，大约作成于汉章帝元和三年（86年）。现存文章有85篇（其中的《招致》仅存篇目，实存84篇。）。《论衡》细说微论，解释世俗之疑，辨照是非之理，即以"实"为根据，疾虚妄之言。"衡"字本义是天平，《论衡》就是评定当时言论的价值的天平。它的目的是"冀悟迷惑之心，使知虚实之分"（《论衡·对作》篇）。因此，它是古代一部不朽的唯物主义的哲学文献。
