《喻世明言》是"三言"的第一部，四十卷，收话本四十种。题材广泛，描绘出城市市民生活的真实面貌，体现的主要是市民阶层的思想、愿望和道德标准。其中，《蒋兴哥重会珍珠衫》《沈小霞相会出师表》《滕大尹鬼断家私》《金玉奴棒打薄情郎》《宋四公大闹禁魂张》，都是久负盛名的作品。("Stories to Enlighten the World" is the first part of the "Three Words" collection.
