《中国古典文学名著丛书：儒林外史》是我国文学史上一部杰出的现实主义的长篇讽刺小说。《中国古典文学名著丛书：儒林外史》原本仅55回。根据程晋芳《怀人诗》，可以证明在吴敬梓49岁的时候已经脱稿，但是直到作者死后十多年才由金兆燕给他刻了出来。这个刻本，今已失传。现在通行的刻本是56回，其中最末一回乃后人伪作。
