本书上篇以小说、戏剧、传说、史传中的有关材料为对象，来考察关羽形象的传播与接受，在传播者的阶层结构、地域分布、话语特点及解读语境等方面皆有独到的研究。下篇则侧重于理论的阐发与讨论，在总结关羽形象传播与接受特点的基础上，提出了若干古代文化传播的模式。（The first part of the book, taking relevant materials in novels, drama, legends and history records as the object, inspects the promotion and acceptance of the image of Guan Yu, characterized by unique study in disseminators class structure, regional distribution, discourse characteristics and context interpretation etc. The next half focuses on the theoretical exposition and discussion, and puts forward a number of ancient cultural dissemination modes, on the basis of summarizing characteristics of promotion and reception of Guan Yu's image.）
