The two sisters Elinor and Marianne lived in a middle-class rural family. The elder sister was proficient in controlling emotions with sensibility while the younger one has no control of her sense. As a result, they made different reactions when love arrived. The novel uses the complex and zigzag marriage of the two heroines as the main clue. By making humorous contrast between sense and sensibility, the novel raises the issue about morals and behavior regulation. The novel is a sister book of Pride and Prejudice, another novel of the writer, which also uses the subtle description and vivid dialogue to tell the love and marriage story of a young girl without abundant dowry.
