儒林外史（The Scholars）

中国文学史上一部杰出的讽刺小说。所表现的是作者吴敬梓亲身的所历所闻，也寄托了他看重文行出处、鄙视功名富贵的高尚情操。小说以生动形象的笔墨，逼真地反映了社会，是一幅活生生的社会面貌图。作者吴敬梓把民间口语加以提炼，以朴素、幽默、本色的语言，写科举的腐朽黑暗，腐儒及假名士的庸俗可笑，贪官污吏的刻薄可鄙，无不恰到好处，谑而不苛，不堕落暴露小说的恶趣之中。 （This is an outstanding satirical novel in Chian's literature history, which shows Wu Jingzi, the author saw and heard by himself. The novel also expresses his noble sentiments that he valued text sources and despised fame and fortune. In vivid and lively writing style, the book reflects realistically society and it is a lifelike social outlook picture. Wu Jingzi, the author, refined folk oral language and used simple, humorous and natural language to write about darkness of the feudal national examination system, vulgarity and ridiculousness of bookish scholars and fake celebrities and harshness and contemptibility of corrupt officials. Such description in the book just comes to the point appropriately, it is ridiculous rather than harsh so that the book does not fall into the trap of low interest for the exposure novel.）
