《世界宗教的经济伦理•儒教与道教(最新修订版)》收录了韦伯生前设计的比较宗教社会学宏篇巨著《世界宗教的经济伦理》前三篇：《导论》、《儒教与道教》和《过渡研究》。在书中，韦伯所研究的课题是：中国为什么没有出现西方那样的资本主义？韦伯以较大的篇幅分析研究了中国的社会结构，又重点研究了建立在这种社会结构基础之上的中国正统文化——儒教伦理，同时还顺便考察了被视为异端的道教。韦伯将儒教与西方的清教作了较为透彻的分析比较，最后得出了一个结论：儒家伦理阻碍了中国资本主义的发展。(Economic Ethics of World Religion • Confucianism and Taoism (Latest Revision) collects first three articles of Economic Ethics of World Religion , a magnum opus written by Weber during his lifetime for the comparison between religious sociology: Introduction, Confucianism and Taoism and Researches on Transition. In the book, the subject Weber studied is: why didn't western capitalism appear in China? Weber analyzes the social structure of China with most words, and then focuses on Chinese traditional culture- Confucianism Ethics which is based on this social structure, and also he incidentally observes Taoism which is seemed as the heterodoxy.
